When it comes to the installation of toilets and showers it’s a task that’s always best left to a professional plumber. But aside from the fact that maybe your toilet or shower maybe isn’t as esthetically pleasing as you’d like it to be, how do you know that it’s time to replace your shower or toilet?
Here are a few reasons your shower may need to be replaced:
Drain Issues
Notice water collecting by your feet as you shower? You may have a clogged drain. Drains can clog for many reasons and is not always a serious sign your shower needs repairs. However, if the problem persists, it’s best to call in the professionals. Most often, hair and debris can get stuck deep within your drain. A drain snake works by dislodging any material and pulling it out. Drain snakes are effective for minor blockages, however, if there is a large blockage, it’s best to call your plumber.
Dripping Shower Head
We all know that classic dripping sound from a leaky shower, but what’s even scarier is that leaking showers can waste several litres of water per day. Use a drip calculator to determine just how much water you’re losing through a leaking faucet or showerhead. If you aren’t careful, it can also increase your bills.
Discoloured Water
Your shower water should appear crystal clear, after all you’re using it to clean yourself! If you notice a tint in the colour of the water, chances are your shower needs repairs. If the water is tinted brown, yellow or slightly orange it’s a good indication your pipes are rusty – not really a big deal. However, heavy pigmentation in the water could indicate a severely corroded pipe. Run for 1-2 minutes and see whether or not it becomes clear, if the problem persists, call a plumber.
Here are a few reasons your toilet may need to be replaced:
Toilet is Always Blocked
If your toilet is clogging consistently, this is a sign that you should look into buying a new one. Put away the plunger and give a local plumber a call.
Porcelain Cracks or Scratches
Most people aren’t aware that bacteria and dirt can build up in scratches and cracks, making it impossible to get your toilet truly clean and gives it an increasingly dingy look which is not pleasant and unfortunately it will never go away. A crack could expand, which could even lead to bigger leaks resulting in water damage.
